Dhaka, Bangladesh – North South University (NSU) successfully hosted its flagship accounting career-based seminar, ‘The Bottom Line Series’, on March 4, 2025. Organized by the Department of Accounting and Finance in collaboration with the NSU Accounting Club (proposed), the event brought together esteemed professionals from the accounting and finance sector for an engaging session aimed at bridging the gap between academia and the professional world.
The seminar featured a distinguished panel of speakers, headlined by Mr. Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, President of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB), as the Chief Guest. The event also welcomed Mr. SK Ashik Iqbal, Partner at Deloitte Bangladesh; Mr. Shah Md. Mohin Uddin, Senior Partner at Hasan & Mohin Chartered Accountants and Co.; and Mr. Raqibul Faiaze Md. Ikramah, Vice Chair of the Members Advisory Committee (MAC) of ACCA Bangladesh and Deputy Director & Head of Financial Reporting and Accounting at Grameenphone Ltd.
The seminar commenced with a compelling welcome speech by Dr. FJ Mohamain, Chairman of the Department of Accounting and Finance, who highlighted the increasing demand for Chartered Accountants in Bangladesh and the significance of industry engagement for aspiring professionals.

- Mr. SK Ashik Iqbal emphasized the four essential characteristics of a successful accountant, highlighting the importance of ethics and integrity in Bangladesh’s financial landscape.
- Mr. Mahtab Uddin Ahmed delivered an insightful presentation on the necessity of innovative leadership in accounting. He encouraged students to adopt a dynamic mindset and prepare for emerging trends, including the role of AI in finance. “Don’t be competent jerks but be lovable stars,” he advised, urging students to combine technical excellence with strong interpersonal skills.
2. Engaging Panel Discussion
The seminar’s second segment featured an interactive panel discussion, moderated by Mr. Raqibul Faiaze Md. Ikramah, and included all guest speakers along with Dr. AKM Waresul Karim, Dean of the School of Business and Economics. The discussion provided students with a platform to directly engage with industry leaders, addressing pressing topics such as the impact of AI in accounting, the importance of networking, and the challenges surrounding financial reporting standards in Bangladesh.
Closing Remarks and Recognition
Following the panel discussion, Dr. AKM Waresul Karim encouraged students to pursue careers in accounting and finance, delivering inspiring closing remarks. The event concluded with a crest ceremony, where crests were presented to the guest speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions. Dr. FJ Mohamain was also honored by the organizers and volunteers of the NSU Accounting Club (proposed).
