If we consider the financial value of the materials and services that a tree provides in an average of fifty years, it will be around forty lakh taka. A tree provides the equivalent of ten AC’s of cooling in a year, absorbs 750 gallons of rainwater, absorbs 60 pounds of harmful gases from the air. And if it is a Neem tree, then its prevalence increases several times because Neem is a medicinal plant whose branches, leaves and juice are all useful. 22 diseases are cured with Neem alone. Nowadays cosmetics are also made from Neem leaves. Neem juice is very effective as an anthelmintic. Neem wood is also very strong. This would never whiffs. Insects do not build nests. Can’t eat termites.
Motivated by these benefits, Ashraful Alam, the content creator of the Facebook page ‘Go with Ashraful Alam’ on environment, travel and aviation issues, has planted more than five hundred Neem trees in Dhaka. Planting of these trees started last week in Gulshan-Banani Lakeside and the University of Dhaka area and the program ended today (Saturday, August 31). But besides this, many other types of fruit and beautifying trees are also planted. Mission Green Bangladesh and SMS Environmental Alliance were the collaborators in this grand event.
Content creator Ashraful Alam said, “The amount of oxygen that we are taking for free from nature would have cost a huge amount of money every day to get it from any hospital. Although we spend money on everything in life, we don’t just spend on constant oxygen consumption. We can get clean air because someone has planted trees. So let’s supply our own oxygen from today.” He also said “Mission Green Bangladesh will take care our planted trees”.
Regarding the planting of trees, Mission Green Bangladesh convener Ahsan Roni said, “We want to make the whole country green.” If the country is green, the risk of climate change will not only be reduced to a large extent but also our country will regain its lost form. We will get back green, green Bangladesh”.
Incidentally, the concrete structure of Dhaka city is basically increasing the temperature of the city Dhaka’s environmental pollution is much higher than other major cities in the world due to high population, over-urbanisation, vehicles, water bodies and loss of vegetation. The amount of vegetation in Dhaka city was 26.68 percent in 1989, which gradually decreased to 15.93 percent and 8.53 percent in 1999 and 2009 respectively. On the other hand, the annual average temperature of Dhaka city was 18 to 24 degrees Celsius in 1989 but it increased to 24 to 30 degrees Celsius in 2009. And we all know how much this year has been.
Meanwhile, the amount of afforestation program taken outside Dhaka is satisfactory but insufficient in Dhaka city. Trees not only save human beings by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen but also play a vital role in precipitation. Also, the leaves, twigs, bark, can be used as various types of medicine. But due to the destruction of trees, the temperature is increasing in summer and the amount of cold in winter is increasing on the other hand. At the same time, the environment is under threat. So, we have to plant as many trees as possible from our own land.
