The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) presented the inaugural Business Excellence Awards to 10 outstanding individuals and companies for their significant contributions to the business and economy. The awards were handed out during the Bangladesh Business Summit at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, with Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, and FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin in attendance.
Notable awardees included Nazmul Hasan, Managing Director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals, recognized for his role in developing the pharmaceutical industry and establishing Bangladesh as a global generic drugs manufacturing hub. Alihussain Akberali, Chairman of BSRM, was honored for his transformative impact on the steel industry.
In other categories, Mubarak Ali, Managing Director of Olympic Industries, won in the industry category, while Anjan Chowdhury, Managing Director of Square Food and Beverage Ltd, received the award in the agriculture and agro-business category.Md Kazim Uddin, the Chief Executive Officer of National Life Insurance Co Ltd, was commended for his outstanding contributions in the service sector. Meanwhile, Humayun Rashid, the CEO of Energypac Power Generation Ltd, was recognized for his exceptional achievements in the trade industry.
In the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) category, the awards were granted to Md Rashedul Karim Munna, who serves as the Managing Director of Creation Private Ltd, and Safius Sami Alamgir, the Managing Director of Tampaco Foils Ltd. Both were acknowledged for their remarkable leadership and accomplishments.
Tania Wahab, Managing Partner of Karigar, was crowned as the best woman entrepreneur, while Safwan Sobhan, Managing Director of Bashundhara Paper Mills Ltd and Bashundhara Multi Paper Industries Ltd, was honored as the young entrepreneur.
Mahbubur Rahman, a former president of FBCCI, and Maleka Khan, a researcher specializing in heritage and crafts, received special recognition, with Maleka Khan also earning the prestigious jury special award. Lifetime achievement awards were presented to Sabina Yasmin, a renowned singer, and Salman F Rahman, Vice-Chairman of Beximco Group, a major business conglomerate in Bangladesh.
SM Faruqi Hasan, Chairman and Managing Director of Protik Ceramics Limited, was recognized in the special recognition category.
At the ceremony, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun emphasized the government’s commitment to knowledge-based industrialization and the protection of industrial entrepreneurs’ interests, acknowledging their vital role in the country’s development journey.
