I am currently serving as the Senior Assistant Vice President (Head of HR) at Bay Developments Ltd., overseeing human resources operations. Concurrently, I manage HR, Admin, and Operations at Bistro E, The Courtyard, and EDGE Gallery. I also have experience as a Marketing Research Assistant at AC Nielsen Bangladesh from 2008 to 2009. On the academic front, I hold a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in HRM from the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), an MBA from the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), and both an MSS and BSS in Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University (JU). I completed my Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in 1999 from Rifles Public School & College.
During my career, I started working as a part-time lecturer of IBA- Jahangirnagar University and my area of concentration is Training and Development. My passion is learning about people, I have conducted few training sessions voluntarily.
In your role as Senior Assistant Vice President at Bay Developments Ltd., what are the key responsibilities you oversee within the company’s operations?
As the Senior Management of HR, my key responsibilities encompass strategic planning to align HR strategies with organizational goals, overseeing recruitment and talent acquisition processes, managing employee relations including conflict resolution and grievance handling, implementing performance management systems, developing and delivering training programs, managing compensation and benefits, establishing HR policies and procedures, fostering employee engagement, utilizing HR metrics and analytics for data-driven decisions, and ensuring legal compliance with labor laws and regulations. These duties aim to create a positive work environment, support employee development, and contribute to the overall success of the organization.
What challenges have you encountered in your career, and how have you navigated them to achieve success?
Bay is a company of learning and growth. Here, people can involve themselves in any task if they have an interest in learning. In that case, Bay helps develop a growth mindset. They give young people enough space to showcase their talent. Every young champion has the opportunity to transition into a leadership role.
In my role as a real estate HR head, I’ve faced several challenges, such as finding skilled professionals in a competitive job market, managing diverse teams spread across different locations, and keeping up with the ever-changing regulations in the real estate industry. To tackle these hurdles and succeed, I’ve adopted creative recruitment methods to attract top talent, set up clear communication channels to unite teams and stay updated on legal requirements to ensure compliance. Moreover, I’ve prioritized building a positive work environment that boosts employee morale and loyalty, which has been key to overcoming these challenges and achieving success in my role.
As a leader in your industry, what do you see as the most significant trends shaping the future of real estate development globally?
Establishing a real estate training academy entails developing a comprehensive curriculum covering market analysis, financing, and sustainable development. Partnering with industry stakeholders and academic institutions can enrich the program through guest lectures, internships, and job placements. Offering professional certification programs and online learning platforms expands accessibility and flexibility. Practical workshops, mentorship programs, and continuing education opportunities ensure ongoing skill development. Additionally, fostering community engagement and research collaborations drive innovation and social responsibility within the industry. Through these initiatives, the academy aims to cultivate skilled and adaptable real estate professionals, advancing the industry’s growth and sustainability.
What advice would you offer to aspiring professionals looking to advance their careers in the real estate and development sector?
For aspiring professionals in the real estate and development sector, I would emphasize the importance of adopting a continuous learning mindset. Focus on acquiring knowledge and skills relevant to the industry, both personally and professionally. Strive to become competent in your field, as expertise is key to success. Additionally, sincerity and dedication to your work are crucial. Stay committed to your goals and remain focused on achieving them, recognizing that success in this industry is attainable through hard work and perseverance. Remember that every industry offers opportunities for a successful career, and with determination and dedication, you can excel in real estate and development.
What is a memorable lesson you’ve learned from a setback or failure, and how has it impacted your growth as a leader?
Bay Developments is one of the leading real estate companies in this sector. I joined when I was very young, and there are some truly memorable moments of my life that happened here. During my career, I started my conjugal life, became a parent, and unfortunately, lost my father – all while at Bay. The continuous support from Bay and its management has made my life much easier. I always acknowledge my company’s contribution to my career.
In a challenging project at the start of my career, unexpected setbacks led to delays and budget overruns. Despite initial frustration, I viewed the setback as a learning opportunity. With open communication and support from my company, Bay Developments, we collaborated to find creative solutions. Through resilience and teamwork, we overcame the challenges and successfully completed the project. This experience taught me the importance of adaptability and positive problem-solving, shaping my growth as a leader.
