Mr. Nahid Hasan Selim: Education begins at home. As, I come from a military family, where discipline and good behavior were my first lessons. I attended Jhenaidah Cadet College which focus on developing future leaders, high moral standards, sense of responsibility and patriotism. My education background in Supply Chain from military, combined with specialize training in operations, security, administration and human resources management provided me with a broad and versatile skill set. During my Master’s program in Defence Services Command and Staff College, I gained extensive knowledge in advance topics, including leadership and skills, decision making process, strategic studies, training management, land and special warfare, maneuvers, supply chain and logistics management and military engineering. This comprehensive education has equipped me with a robust understanding of strategic and operation dynamics in both military and civilian contexts. With two tenures as a Logistics Officer with United Nations, I have honed my expertise in project management, advanced logistics management, resource management, crisis response skills, adaptation, regulatory knowledge, cultural sensitivity, ethical considerations, cross-cultural communication and above all leadership and teamwork. Finally, my certification as a Supply Chain Manager (CSCM) has further strengthened my abilities in strategic planning, operations optimization, drive efficiencies, risk management, technology integration, legal and regulatory compliance, and contribute to the overall success of my organization.

Smooth coordination across all the departments within my organization is off paramount importance as it reduces the delays and bottlenecks of flow of work and leads to more efficient and quicker completion of work. It also retains quality working environment in the office. I implemented the following strategies to ensure smooth coordination across all the departments within AWR Developments:

Team Building: Team building is vital for developing a collaborative and productive work environment. I organized regular cross-departmental meetings, systemized clear communication channels, organized outdoor activities, and arranged awards and incentives to celebrate achievements.

Making everyone important: Mentoring individuals to understand their importance significantly impacted their level of motivation, confidence and overall contribution to the team.

Sharing the bigger picture: I organized meetings to make each team understand that how their role fits to achieve larger organizational goals and the value of cross functional relationship.

Healthy work environment: Upholding healthy work environment is a major key for me to implement smooth coordination across all departments. I ensured relevant information is accessible to all departments to foster transparency and resolved conflicts promptly.

There are always challenges and problems even after detail planning to implement any project in time. These provide turbulences to the process and work flow. I maintain a thoughtful and systematic approach to manage challenges.

Remain calm and collected: First, I ensure that everyone remains calm and focused, both personally and within the team and avoids panic. Maintaining a composed environment helps in addressing the issues more effectively.

Collaborative problem solving: I convene with the team to analyze the challenges thoroughly.  By utilizing our collective strength and expertise, we device strategies or means to mitigate the challenges.

Engage Stakeholders: My communication and strong relationships with stakeholders play a vital role. Their support and collaboration in case to case basis are instrumental in mitigating challenges and ensuring project success.

I feel that it would be appropriate to highlight few of the achievements rather describing a significant one which showcases a well-rounded approach to leadership, impact on internal team dynamics and organizational improvement in my current role.

Achieving trust and faith: My leadership ability created a collaborative environment where team members felt comfortable sharing ideas and working together with fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among them. It also boosted their morale and job satisfaction which made the communication more open and honest.

Improved office culture and environment: It helped to elevate employee motivation and involvement, leading to increased productivity, commitment and reduced employee turnover.

Enhanced corporate image and connectivity:  It strengthen relationship with partners and stakeholders and increased flow of information to support organizational goals. Effective coordination also expedited the process of obtaining necessary decisions, resolving issues, permits, licenses and approvals, reducing delays in business operations. 

Comply with regulatory compliances and safety issues: I oversee the compliance and safety issues to avoid legal issues and safeguarding the company’s reputation. I ensure that employees are trained and educated on relevant regulation and compliance requirements. I develop and circulate comprehensive compliance policies and procedures which are monitored and regularly updated.

Enhance Information Management: Accurate and timely information on business growth allowed us to assess the project and made us well-prepared for bidding or rejecting new contracts and staying competitive in the market.

Better crisis management: Effectively managed and resolved critical issues, minimizing disruptions and maintaining operational stability.

Effective communication between senior management and operational teams is very important to keep the team members onboard to ensure smooth operations and fostering a collaborative work environment. Few of the ways those I followed to achieve effective communication are narrated bellow:

Honesty and transparent information sharing: My commitment to honesty and transparency has been fundamental in building trust and sense of integrity among the team members. I share relevant information, decisions, and changes from senior management to team members regularly. Simultaneously, I have maintained openness with senior management, portraying the accurate picture on operation realities and their potential consequences.

Explaining the bigger picture and promoting junior leadership: I explain the company decisions or movements to the team members to fit them in the bigger picture and promote junior leaders to execute the task. These make them feel that they are the important assets for the company’s journey.

Monitoring welfare of the team members: I am always approachable even by the team members who are working in the furthest distance. I monitor their welfare and ensure necessary resources and entertainment facility who all are working in the remote places. These mitigate their feelings of isolation, reinforce their sense of belonging and connection with senior management and support their mental well-being.

Adopting technology advancement: I adopt collaborative tools and platforms where effort, success, challenges, mitigation are visible to all members who all are included. This bridge the gap between senior management and operational teams, fostering a more cohesive and productive work environment.

I utilize following leadership principle during decision making process in any high pressure situation:

  • I stay calm to prevent panic from clouding my judgment and remain focused to think clearly on the situation.
  • I gather relevant information and data to device a potential approach of handling the situation without delay. I communicate with the related authority, beneficiary or stakeholder to clarify the requirement and align expectations, which is crucial for executing the decision effectively.
  • I sit with the team members to motivate them and evaluate their points, regulatory issues and my plan. I also identify constrains to mitigate them which helps to avoid obstacles during execution.

Finally, I prioritize the tasks and delegate responsibility discussing ways and means.

Throughout my career, I worked under various leaders and navigate challenging situations. As I reflect on my journey, I realize that certain beliefs have significantly contribute to my happiness and fulfillment:

Never to lose hope. Honesty is tough but the best policy. One should know his work with process of full filling it and no shame to learn it from others. One should equip himself with necessary information and knowledge which should be a continuous process. Road to the tallest peak with beauty and serenity is always long and tough but achievable. Almighty knows what is best for you, just do your work. Patience and well mannerism have no alternatives. One should enjoy ones work. Satisfaction should come from heart and must have a full stop. Family and good health are the best assets in a human’s life.

The most outstanding achievement of your life as of now?
I feel content with where I am standing now. This sense of satisfaction is my greatest achievement.
