We invite our esteemed readers to delve into this captivating conversation with one of the brightest icons of the advisory industry.

Hasan Imam Siddiki: My career journey has been shaped by a combination of academic passion, family support, and mentorship, leading me to my current role as a corporate leader. My academic path began in the science group during my Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, but I eventually shifted to the Business Studies group with the aim of becoming a Chartered Accountant. This decision was greatly influenced by my uncle, a professor in the Management Department, whose unwavering support and encouragement gave me the vision to pursue a career in accounting.

After completing my Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), I was admitted to the University of Rajshahi, majoring in Accounting and Information Systems. Upon completing my BBA and MBA, I joined the Chartered Accountancy program at Grant Thornton International (Howladar Yunus & Co., Chartered Accountants), where I was mentored by Mr. Jahidur Rahman, FCA. His guidance during my training years was invaluable in shaping my professional journey.

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, I sought an opportunity with a multinational corporation (MNC), driven by my ambition to work in the global business environment. However, fate had other plans. During an audit assignment with Youth Group, I had the opportunity to attend the closing meeting of an audit, where I caught the attention of the Managing Director, the late Mr. Feroz Alam. His persuasion and belief in my abilities led him to offer me the position of Manager-Finance & Accounts. Despite my initial reluctance to join, due to my MNC aspirations, Mr. Feroz’s convincing leadership inspired me to accept the offer.

Under Mr. Feroz Alam’s leadership, I was appointed Group Finance Manager for Youth Group, which operates in a diverse range of industries, including power plants, oil refineries, textiles, garments, and LPG bottling. This role offered a steep learning curve, as I had to navigate the financial complexities of multiple sectors simultaneously. The experience was both challenging and rewarding, allowing me to gain comprehensive knowledge of diverse industries while refining my leadership and management skills.

One of the key individuals who has contributed significantly to my growth as a corporate leader is Mr. Faridul Alam, the current Managing Director of Youth Group. His mentorship and ability to create opportunities for career progression have played an instrumental role in my development. His support has been critical in shaping my vision and advancing my career in the corporate world.

Reflecting on my journey, I am deeply grateful for the guidance of my family, mentors, and colleagues who have helped shape my path. Their belief in me, coupled with the rich learning experiences in diverse industries, has equipped me to take on leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to the corporate sector.

The role of chartered accountants (CAs) in Bangladesh has evolved from traditional accounting and compliance to key players in advisory and strategic decision-making. As businesses face increasing complexity due to globalization, technological advancements, and dynamic regulations, CAs are now trusted advisors rather than just auditors.

Expanded Advisory Role

CAs are deeply involved in mergers and acquisitions, helping businesses identify synergies, conduct due diligence, and structure transactions. They provide insights on tax optimization, risk management, and financial modeling to support informed decision-making.

Strategic Contributions

CAs play a critical role in shaping corporate strategies, and aligning financial goals with long-term objectives. They offer scenario analysis, forecasting, and performance evaluation to navigate uncertainties and seize opportunities.

Technology Integration

The integration of digital tools has elevated the CA’s role. They are now key advisors in implementing automation, data analytics, and ERP systems to drive efficiency and strategic insights.

As businesses in Bangladesh grow more sophisticated, the CA profession will continue to guide organizations toward sustainable growth and resilience.

Throughout my career, several core values and philosophies have guided me, shaping my leadership style and professional journey:

I believe that trust is the foundation of any professional relationship. Upholding the highest ethical standards has been central to every decision I’ve made, ensuring that clients, colleagues, and stakeholders can rely on me for honesty and transparency.

I am deeply committed to lifelong learning. The financial world is ever-evolving, and staying updated with new knowledge, regulations, and technologies has enabled me to adapt and lead effectively in a competitive environment.

I value teamwork and the collective strength of diverse perspectives. Fostering a collaborative environment has not only improved outcomes but also empowered my team to take ownership and grow professionally.

Challenges are inevitable, but I view them as opportunities for growth. This philosophy has helped me remain focused and solution-oriented, even in difficult circumstances, whether managing financial constraints or navigating complex client requirements.

Understanding and addressing the unique needs of each client has been at the heart of my practice. This commitment to excellence and personalized service has helped build lasting relationships.

These principles have shaped my leadership style into one that prioritizes ethical excellence, continuous growth, and meaningful impact in both my professional and personal endeavors.

The next generation of accountants and financial leaders must combine technical expertise, strategic thinking, and adaptability to navigate today’s dynamic global environment. Here are the critical skills and qualities for success:
