Garment workers have been protesting in Dhaka, Bangladesh, for three days, demanding an increase in wages due to rising prices of essential commodities. Following the movement, a tripartite meeting of owner-worker-government was held for the second day in a row on June 6, 2022. After the meeting, MP and Labor Leader Shahjahan Khan assured to form a minimum wage board in the shortest possible time. Shahjahan Khan said that the government had considered the issue of giving ration cards to garment workers. Through this card, the workers will get the opportunity to buy daily necessities at low prices. The minimum wage structure was implemented on December 1, 2016, in the readymade garments sector, which was 8000 Bdt. However, after a 5% increase in wages, it has risen to 8,884 Taka.

BGMEA Vice-president Syed Nazrul Islam and Jatiya Sramik League Acting President Alauddin Mirajul were present at the tripartite meeting chaired by the Additional Inspector General of the Department of Factory and Establishment Inspection (DIFE) Mina Masud Ujjaman in the capital.
