Md. Mahbub Ul Alam was appointed chairman of Social Islami Bank Limited(SIBL) on 21st December 2021. According to a press release, before joining SIBL as chairman, he worked as an adviser for First Security Islami Bank Ltd. and managing director and chief executive officer for Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd.
He began his career at Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. as a probationary officer in 1984 and rose through the ranks to become the bank’s MD and CEO. During his 37-year banking career, he received various honors and milestones, including the ‘Best Emerging CEO in Islamic Banking-2018’ and ‘CEO of the Year-2019’ award in World Islamic Banking from UK-based Cambridge International Financial Advisory.
On 21st December, Zafar Alam was named managing director and chief executive officer of Social Islami Bank Limited. Before joining SIBL as MD and CEO, he worked as an additional managing director for Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited and a deputy managing director for Social Islami Bank Limited.
Zafar Alam began his career from Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. as a probationary officer when it was 1992 and performed in different capacities at the bank. In his 30-year banking career, he served six important branches of Dhaka as manager, head of the human resource wing and chief human resource officer, and other vital positions at the bank.
