Exclusive Interview with
Shah Md. Mohin Uddin, FCA
The InCAP: Mr. Shah Md. Mohin Uddin, with a decade of diverse corporate experience across multiple prestigious organizations, how have your earlier roles at Shah Cement Industries Ltd., Philip Morris Bangladesh, and others shaped your approach to leadership and financial advisory today?
Shah Md. Mohin Uddin: My earlier roles at Shah Cement Industries Ltd. and Philip Morris Bangladesh provided a strong foundation in both operational and strategic business management. At Shah Cement, I focused on sales planning, revenue collection, bad debt recovery, distributor partnerships, as well as brand and marketing strategies. This exposure to large-scale operations and complex financial structures honed my analytical and problem-solving skills. At Philip Morris, working within a global corporate environment, I gained valuable insights into the importance of innovation, agility, and adaptability in leadership. These experiences helped me develop a holistic perspective on business dynamics, which continues to shape my approach to financial advisory today. I prioritize sustainable financial strategies, clear communication, and leading by example to ensure long-term success for our clients.
As a Senior Partner at Hasan Mohin, Chartered Accountants, how do you align the firm’s strategic objectives with the evolving demands of the financial sector? With your expertise in areas such as internal audit, equity financing, business process re-designing, and financial modeling, how do you envision the firm’s future and its contribution to the broader financial ecosystem in Bangladesh and beyond?
At Hasan Mohin, we are committed to staying ahead of industry trends, with a particular focus on internal audit, equity financing, business process re-designing, and financial modeling. To align our strategic objectives with the dynamic financial landscape, we emphasize innovation, continuous learning, and a client-centric approach that delivers tailored, effective solutions. As the financial sector in Bangladesh evolves, our goal is to play a pivotal role by offering comprehensive financial advisory services, including strategic investments and sustainable financing solutions. Looking ahead, we envision the firm becoming a key player in both the local and global financial ecosystems, building strategic partnerships, and creating long-term value for our clients in an increasingly complex and competitive market.
Mr. Mohin, given the accelerating influence of technology on the financial advisory sector, how do you perceive digital tools and innovations reshaping the industry’s dynamics? In what ways is Hasan Mohin capitalizing on these technological advancements to maintain a competitive edge in the modern business arena?
Technology has become a transformative force in the financial advisory sector. Digital tools such as AI-driven analytics, blockchain, and cloud-based financial platforms are reshaping the way we approach financial management, risk assessment, and client relations. At Hasan Mohin, we are proactively integrating these technologies into our daily operations, using advanced financial modeling software and digital platforms to enhance our services. By adopting these tools, we can provide more accurate, efficient, and scalable solutions to our clients, while also maintaining a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving marketplace.
Having been actively involved in BPO services, taxation, and auditing, how do you believe these services impact the financial resilience of businesses? Additionally, what changes or advancements do you foresee in these areas as the industry continues to evolve?
BPO services, taxation, and auditing play a critical role in ensuring the financial resilience of businesses. By outsourcing non-core functions like accounting, auditing, and tax compliance, companies can focus on their growth while maintaining efficiency and regulatory compliance. The role of taxation and auditing is pivotal in helping businesses identify risks, optimize their financial structure, and avoid penalties. As the industry evolves, I foresee further integration of automation and AI in these services, which will improve efficiency, reduce costs, and provide businesses with real-time financial insights.
Mr. Mohin, with your academic foundation from NSU and IBA, University of Dhaka, coupled with your CA Articleship at KPMG Bangladesh, how have these formative experiences shaped your approach to financial advisory and leadership? Are there particular theories, methodologies, or practical skills from your education and training that you actively apply in your role at Hasan Mohin?
My academic background from NSU and IBA, University of Dhaka, along with my CA Articleship at KPMG Bangladesh, has been instrumental in shaping my approach to financial advisory and leadership. These experiences taught me the importance of critical thinking, structured problem-solving, and strategic planning. At KPMG, I honed my technical skills in auditing, financial analysis, and risk management, which I now apply to help our clients navigate complex financial landscapes. I actively apply principles of financial modeling, cost management, and value-driven leadership to deliver effective solutions that are not only financially sound but also aligned with the long-term goals of the clients.
How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance while managing the demands of running a leading accounting firm? What practices do you find most effective in maintaining personal well-being amidst your professional responsibilities?
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial for long-term success. I prioritize time management and delegate tasks effectively to ensure I focus on the most impactful aspects of my work. In terms of personal well-being, I make time for regular physical activity, practice mindfulness, and ensure that I spend quality time with family and friends. A clear separation between professional and personal time helps me recharge and stay motivated. Having a strong support system at both work and home also plays a key role in maintaining balance.
Mr. Mohin, as a young leader in a senior role at a well-established firm, how do you inspire and lead the next generation of financial professionals? What leadership principles do you prioritize to nurture talent and ensure sustainable success for both your team and the firm?
As a young leader, I believe in leading by example and creating an environment where learning and growth are continuous. I prioritize empowering my team by providing them with opportunities to take ownership of projects, encouraging innovation, and fostering a culture of collaboration. I emphasize the importance of integrity, accountability, and adaptability, while also ensuring that team members understand the bigger picture and the impact of their work.
