ACCA Bangladesh celebrated its prestigious New Member Ceremony, formally welcoming 28 newly qualified ACCA members and 44 new ACCA Fellows (FCCAs) into its professional network. The event featured Mr. Dan Pasha, Country Director of Trade and Investment at the British High Commission, as the Chief Guest, alongside distinguished leaders from the corporate sector, academia, financial institutions, and think tanks. Ms. Ayla Majid, ACCA Global President, addressed the new members online, applauding their professional accomplishments and commitment to advancing the accountancy profession. Chief Guest Mr. Dan Pasha praised ACCA for fostering global talent and addressing employability challenges in Bangladesh, emphasizing the nation’s future hinges on its professionals and the enduring UK-Bangladesh ties. Guest of Honor Dr. Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor of ULAB, praised ACCA’s transformative impact on the country’s corporate sector through its globally up-to-date curriculum and discipline while encouraging the newest members to keep up with the pace to foster growth. Mrs. Prawma Tapashi Khan FCCA, Country Manager of ACCA Bangladesh, reiterated the organization’s commitment to expanding the market and enhancing professional demand. Mr. Kazi M. Hassan, ACCA MAC Chairman, highlighted ACCA’s decade-long journey in Bangladesh and shaping the finance profession through collective engagement and strategic intervention. The ceremony attracted over 300 ACCA members, key corporate leaders, and industry stakeholders, making it a remarkable event spotlighting professional excellence and sustainability leadership.
As part of ACCA’s global sustainability agenda, this year ACCA New Member Ceremony hosted a panel discussion titled “Leadership Roles in Finance Functions for a Sustainable Climate Transition,” underscoring the critical role of finance professionals in driving sustainability. Ms. Emmeline Skelton, Head of Sustainability at ACCA Global, delivered a keynote address inspired by the ACCA report “Weathering the Storm – Building Resilience Against Climate Disruption,” setting the tone for an insightful session. Moderated by Mr. Kazi M. Hassan, Chairman of ACCA’s Member Advisory Committee, the distinguished panel featured Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Acting Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Bangladesh; Mr. Chowdhury Liakat Ali, Director SFD – Bangladesh Bank; Mr. Shams Zaman, Country Managing Partner of PwC Bangladesh; Mr. Sharier Khan, Executive Editor of The Business Standard; and Mr. Meer Sajed-Ul Basher FCA, Principal & CEO of Sajed Meer Chartered Accountants. Panelists emphasized that transparency, governance, and strategic leadership in finance are crucial for accelerating sustainability initiatives, addressing climate-related challenges, and fostering resilience. These principles are vital for growth and resilience across both private and public sectors, enabling leaders to tackle immediate challenges while ensuring long-term sustainability.
