According to the report, the term of the outgoing President Ramnath Kovind ended on July 24, 2022. After this, Droupadi Murmu took oath as the new President today. Then, the Chief Justice of India, NV Raman administered the oath to him. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Chief Ministers and Governors of several states, and members of the Cabinet were present on occasion.

After taking the oath, Draupadi Murmu said that her election as President proved that India’s poor could dream and fulfill their dreams. 64-year-old Droupadi Murmu also served as the governor of Jharkhand state earlier. She was born in 1958 in a Santal family in Baidapshi village of Mayurbhanj district. Santals are the largest ethnic group in India. Ms. Droupadi Murmu, daughter of the village Head, studied at Ramdevi Women’s College in Bhubaneswar.
