Evercare Hospital Chattogram today announced that it has successfully performed cleft palate surgery on three patients. The surgery was performed by Prof. Dr. Mrinal Kanti Sarker, a leading plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and was funded by the Evercare Foundation as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The Evercare Foundation is a non-profit organization that strives to fulfill the promise of the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing equitable healthcare for vulnerable communities. Its mission is to foster inclusive societies and uphold the rights and dignity of all individuals. In Bangladesh, the Evercare Foundation has partnered with Evercare Hospital Chattogram to provide treatment to children with cleft lips and plates that will allow children from rural villages to smile and lead a normal life, which was previously not possible. The three patients who underwent the surgery are Nayem Hossain (1-year-old, from Kalapani, Ramgarh, Khargachari), Ran Way Mro (10 years old, from Pahartali, Chattogram), and Ainul Islam Samir (8 months old, from Mirersharai). All three patients are currently in stable condition and are expected to make a complete recovery.

“Around six thousand children with cleft lip and palate are born in Bangladesh each year and many of these children do not have access to quality healthcare. We are delighted to have been able to help these three patients,” said Mr. Samir Singh, Chief Operating Officer of Evercare Hospital Chattogram. “Cleft palate surgery is a complex procedure, but our team of experienced surgeons was able to perform it successfully. We are committed to providing high-quality healthcare to all patients.” He also added.

The patients’ guardians also expressed their gratitude to Evercare Hospital Chattogram for providing their children with the opportunity to receive this life-changing surgery.

Masud Miah, father of Nayem Hossain said ‘’I am so grateful to Evercare Hospital for providing my son with this surgery. He was born with a cleft palate, and we were worried about his future. But now, he has a chance to live a normal life. Thank you so much.”

Arjana Chakma, Senior Staff Nurse, Bidyanondo Foundation said “I am so happy that Ran Way Mro was able to receive this surgery. He was always self-conscious about his cleft palate, and he would often get bullied. He can now finally smile with confidence. Thank you to Evercare Hospital for giving him this gift.”
