Sri Lanka’s Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is now seeking refuge in Thailand, another country in Southeast Asia from Singapore. He can reach Thailand on August 11. Mr. Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives on July 13, 2022, in the face of widespread protests in Sri Lanka, which is facing an unprecedented economic crisis. The Sri Lankan Parliament formally accepted his resignation on July 15. Then the former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was elected President in the voting held in the Parliament on July 20. Mr. Ranil said that now is not the right time for former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to return to the country. It may increase political tension.
