Topless protesters flanked German chancellor Olaf Scholz on August 18, 2022, to display against Berlin’s reliance on Russian gas. Two women’s bodies were painted with gas embargo now, staged the protest during an open-day program at the Chancellery in Berlin, where the German commander had been posing for photographs with public members. They were quickly led away by the chancellor’s security team. The article contains Topless Women Demonstrated Against Russian gas in Germany’s Scholz Protest.

Some commentators have charged Mr. Scholz for not taking more vital actions against the Russian energy industry following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine six months ago. However, his ruling coalition debates that a full embargo would lead to a massive economic fallout for Germany. So instead, it has demonstrated that it will phase out Russian oil imports by 2022 and Russian gas imports by as early as mid-2024.

The topless protest came at the end of strenuous days for Mr. Scholz, who has worked to maintain public support amid soaring inflation. Crowds in the town of Neuruppin heckled the 64-year-old on August 21 as he delivered a speech about his government’s plans to control the cost-of-living crisis.

He got into hot water by failing to immediately refuse Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas at a joint news conference in Berlin when he blamed Israel for committing 50 Holocausts. In addition, the opposition party in Hamburg indicted him of obscuring the truth at a hearing into a significant tax scam during his tenure as mayor of the northern port city – charges he denies, instead opposing memory lapses.

To compound these events, a poll discharged on August 18 discovered that his approval rating had slipped from 46 percent in March to just 25% in August. In total, 62 percent of Germans think the Social Democratic Party (SPD) politician is doing a lousy job, up from 39 percent five months ago.
