Turkey has announced to change the name of Turkish airlines. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently said that the state-owned airline would be known as Türkiye Hava Yolları instead of Turkish Airlines. The article is about Turkish Airlines To be Renamed.

According to the report, the country has taken this initiative as part of making the country’s name known internationally as Türkiye instead of Turkey. Earlier in June 2022, Ankara, the capital of Turkey, sent a letter to the United Nations formally registering the country as Türkiye . However, since the declaration of independence in 1923, the government has been calling itself Turkey.

Erdogan’s government says the Turkish name better reflects Turkish culture and values. However, analysts say that the country has taken this initiative to differentiate the name from the turkey bird. At a new communications satellite launch, Erdogan said, “No more Turkey.” From now on, the name of our country is Türkiye. Recently, he said that Hava Yolları would be written in Turkish instead of Turkish Airlines on the planes of state airlines.

Meanwhile, the United Nations and NATO have officially started using the country’s name in Türkiye instead of Turkey. Many high-ranking foreigners visiting Ankara also referred to a country like Türkiye. Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson have similarly addressed the nation. The two countries are trying to overcome Turkey’s objection to joining NATO. As allies, Ankara has the power to withhold its membership. Moreover, Turkey has accused the two Nordic countries of supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party.
