Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Managing Director Taqsem A Khan and other 8 people were sued on June 23, 2022, on the charge of Tk 132.4 crore embezzlement from the fund of its Bahumukhi Samabay Samity Ltd. The other accused are WASA secretary Sharmin Haque Amir, ex-Revenue Inspector M Mizanur Rahman, Additional Engineer M Akhtaruzzaman, Revenue IAHM Zakir Hossain, Executive Engineer M Badrul Alam, Deputy Secretary Sheikh Enayet Abdullah, Deputy Chief Accounts Officer M Salekur Rahman, and Ex-deputy Manager and Branch Manager of Janata Bank’s Karwan Bazar Corporate Branch Shyamal Biswas. Md Shahab Uddin Sarkar, secretary of WASA Karmachari Bahumukhi Samabay Samity Ltd, filed the case with the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam. Right after the hearing, the magistrate recorded the complainant’s statement and will pass an order later in the day. The complainant said that without any committee regulation, Taqsem, in collusion with others, withdrew Tk 132,04,17,460 through 19 cheques, on different dates, from Janata Bank Ltd’s Karwan Bazar Branch, where the Samity’s money was deposited. The matter came to light following an audit of 2018-2020. The complainant appealed to the court to take cognizance of the charges and issue an arrest warrant against all the accused in the case.
