Aamir Khan’s recent movie Laal Singh Chaddha faced many setbacks, starting when its trailer was released. However, now that the film is in different theatres, another obstacle has presented itself. An FIR has been filed in Delhi, India, against the actor, the movie, and others for disrespecting Hindu sentiments and the Indian Army forces. A Delhi-based lawyer submitted the complaint, alleging that the portrayal of the Army in Laal Singh Chaddha has disrespected and insulted the armed forces. The complaint mentioned Mr. Khan, who is also one of the producers of the film, Paramount Pictures, and director Advait Chandan. Hence, Aamir Khan Encountered Complaint For Disrespecting Indian Army with Laal Singh Chaddha Film.
In his complaint to the police, advocate Mr. Vineet Jindal said there was objectionable content in the film. He sought an FIR under sections 153 (wantonly delivering provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (boosting enmity between different groups), 298 (offending the religious feelings of any person), and 505 (statements conducing to public misconduct) of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint said, “In the movie, the makers have depicted that a mentally unstable person was allowed to join Army to fight in the Kargil War. It is a known fact that the best army personnel were sent to fight the Kargil war and rigorously trained army personnel fought it, but the filmmakers intentionally depicted the situation to demoralize and defame the Indian Army.”
The advocate also said that the film also hurt religious sentiments” with a scene where Pakistani personnel asked Laal Singh about praying, “I offer namaz and pray, Laal, why don’t you do the same?” He then says, “My mother told all this puja path is malaria. It causes riots.” In the objection, he said that the comment was aggravating and a defamatory statement aimed at the entire Hindu community. It also stated that the scene provokes sentiments and motivations enraged emotions among the Hindu religion followers.
“This statement portrays his intent of waging war and activating enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion which is against the ideology of a secular democratic country like, and also mischief against the Indian army, which is a criminal offense as per the law of the land,” Mr. Jindal said. Former England Cricketer Monty Panesar also tweeted with a hashtag to boycott the film. He posted, “Forrest Gump fits in the US Army because the US was recruiting low IQ men to meet requirements for the Vietnam War. This movie is a total disgrace to Indian Armed Forces, Indian Army, and Sikhs!! Disrespectful. Disgraceful.” The film also stars Ms. Kareena Kapoor Khan as Laal’s love, Mona Singh, and Naga Chaitanya. The film is told as the official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks starrer Forrest Gump, released in 1994.
