After conquering Bangladeshi hearts, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s movie Hawa is thriving in the United States, presently placing at the 27th spot among the top 30 movies at the US box office. On September 2, 2022, the movie premiered in 73 theaters in US and 13 in Canada. However, this is the first time a Bangladeshi movie has been rated in the top 30 at the US box office, according to Md Waliullah Sajib, President of Swapna Scarecrow Bangladesh, the film distributor in North America. So, Hawa Reached Top 30 At US Box Office.
According to Swapna Scarecrow Bangladesh, Hawa’s gross box office collection is $213,461 till now, a combined group in Canada and US.
Total 25,444 people (9,930 in Canada and 15,514 in the US) have noticed Hawa, a record for a Bangladeshi film. Hawa is the second Chanchal Chowdhury-starring film that has been commercially triumphant in North America. The 2018 film Debi, starring Chanchal Chowdhury and Jaya Ahsan, secured a lifetime box office collection of $125,414.
Along with its collection of $127,149 in the US market and $86,312 in Canada, Hawa hit the record in just three days. “We discovered a whirlwind by Hawa in the US box office, credit goes to the enthusiasm of the Bangladeshi audience in Canada and the United States. We had no thoughts the response would be as intense as it was,” said Mr. Sajib.
Following a gypsy lady who is rescued and got shelter on a fishing boat that has become stranded in the mid of the sea while conveying a story in the style of magic realism, the film features an ensemble cast, like, Chanchal Chowdhury, Nazifa Tushi, Sariful Islam Raaz, Sumon Anwar, Nasir Uddin Khan, and Sohel Mondal in the main-lead roles. The screenplay was penned by Sukarna Sahed Dhiman, Zahin Faruq Amin, and Sumon, while Mr. Sumon wrote the story and dialogue for the movie. Sun Music and Motion Pictures have produced Hawa. Jazz Multimedia is the distributor of the film in Bangladesh.
