In a groundbreaking move to foster sustainable transportation, Runner Group, a leading marketer and assembler of automobiles in Bangladesh, has announced plans to develop a comprehensive nationwide charging network for electric vehicles (EVs). This initiative is part of the strategic collaboration with Genex Infrastructure Limited, a prominent local infrastructure developer.
Today, CG Runner Bangladesh Limited, a sister concern of Runner Group, formalized this partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Runner’s headquarters in Tejgaon. The collaboration aims to support the local launch of BYD SEAL, the first electric vehicle from China-based BYD, scheduled to hit the roads in Bangladesh by March this year.
Genex Infrastructure plans to deploy 10 charging stations in and around Dhaka city and along national highways by March 2024. The ambitious vision extends to establishing a sustainable nationwide charging network, with additional stations set to be installed throughout the year.
With only four charging stations currently operational across the country, this initiative marks a significant stride towards fostering a robust EV infrastructure in Bangladesh. In a bid to prioritize customer experience, CG Runner customers will enjoy preferential treatment in the charging process, ensuring uninterrupted and convenient charging for their electric vehicles.
Runner Group Chairman, Hafizur Rahman Khan, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are pleased to collaborate with Genex Infrastructure Limited to build nationwide charging stations, setting the stage for the electric vehicle revolution in Bangladesh.”
Genex Infrastructure Managing Director, Mohammed Tanzidul Alam, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the pivotal role of such initiatives in shaping the future of sustainable transportation.
Bangladesh, with the recent introduction of EV policies, including the Charging Station Installation Policy, is actively promoting the adoption of electric vehicles. The government’s Electric Motor Vehicle Registration and Operation Guideline for 2023 targets achieving 30 percent electric vehicle penetration by 2030.
This collaboration between Runner Group and Genex Infrastructure signifies a crucial step towards achieving these goals, heralding a new era of eco-friendly transportation in Bangladesh.
