Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the United Nations to punish Russia for the aggression justly. He called for creating a special war crimes tribunal to bring Russia to justice. However, the Ukrainian leader demanded financial compensation and the removal of Moscow’s veto power in the Security Council. So, Zelensky Called For Russia To Be Stripped of Veto Power.
Zelensky made these demands in a video address at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He also outlined a peace ‘formula’ for more military aid to Ukraine and punishing Russia on the world stage. At the beginning of the speech, the President of Ukraine blamed Russia for creating catastrophic unrest by referring to this war as illegal.
At one point in the speech, many of the world leaders in the session stood and saluted Zelensky. Referring to Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a partial military buildup in Russia to protect the motherland in his speech, the Ukrainian president said, “This move shows us that Moscow is not interested in peace talks.” Meanwhile, pro-Russian separatist leaders have called for a referendum to include some areas occupied by Russia in Ukraine with Moscow. He also condemned this incident. They said that the referendum would be held this week.
Zelensky said a special tribunal should be formed to punish Russia for illegally occupying Ukrainian territory and killing thousands of people. At the same time, he called on the United Nations to withdraw the ‘veto’ power held by Russia as a permanent member of the Security Council.
