In a ceremony held at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) building in Dhaka today, bKash, the leading mobile financial services (MFS) provider, was honored as the highest Value Added Tax (VAT) payer in the service sector for the fiscal year 2021-22. This marks the second consecutive year that bKash has received this prestigious recognition from the NBR.
Kamal Quadir, the Chief Executive Officer of bKash, was presented with a letter of honor and a crest by Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, Chairman of the NBR. Speaking at the event, Quadir expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are humbled to have been recognized as the country’s top VAT collector in the services sector for the second consecutive year. As the largest mobile financial service provider in the country, we will continue to operate regulated financial services for the betterment of Bangladesh.”
The ceremony, held as part of the National VAT Day observed annually on December 10, saw the participation of Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Md Sahidul Islam, Member of VAT Audit and Intelligence of the NBR, and Mahbubul Alam, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The NBR honors top VAT payers each year in three categories – Production, Business, and Service. Organizations eligible for this recognition must possess an Electronic Business Identification Number (eBIN), provide VAT slips to consumers, and diligently contribute to the national exchequer.
Moinuddin Mohammed Rahgir, Chief Financial Officer of bKash, was also present at the event.
