If Tesla CEO Elon Musk follows through on his intention to buy Twitter, the social media company’s permanent ban on former President Donald Trump will be lifted. Following the Jan. 6 insurgency at the US Capitol, Twitter deleted Trump’s account in January 2021 for “incitement of violence.” Now the question may arise would Elon Musk reverse Twitter’s ban of Donald Trump?
Mr. Trump had previously claimed that even if his account was reinstated, he would not return to Twitter; instead, he would focus on his own platform, Truth Social, which issues have plagued since its inception earlier in 2022. He said, “I am not going on Twitter. I am going to stay on Truth. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it, and he is a good man, but I am going to stay on Truth.”
In reaction to Mr. Musk’s remarks, a Trump representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment. However, after meeting with the EU’s single market chief, Elon Musk, who is seeking to buy Twitter, expressed his support for a new European Union rule safeguarding social media users from harmful content.
