Extreme Poverty Drives Afghans to Sell Children And Organs

Desperate Afghans are selling their children and organs to meet their basic needs. Each child is being sold for one Lakh to one and a half lakh in Afghani currency. They sell their vital organs, including the kidneys, out of hunger and poverty. However, the price of a kidney is one and a half to two lakh in Afghani currency. Extreme poverty drives Afghans to sell children and organs.

Clashes between the former US-backed Afghan government and the Taliban have displaced millions of people in the northern provinces of Balkh, Sar-e-Pol, Faryab, and Jowzjan. According to various human rights organizations, more than 57 lakh people suffer.

Afghans are living in indescribable misery in refugee camps. Refugees in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, are selling their children to meet the urgent needs of family members and selling various organs, including kidneys.

Residents claim that the financial crisis and the poverty created by the Corona epidemic have forced them to sell children and kidneys. So they inform, they are in a miserable situation, and no one pays any attention to them. They are in crisis; they are needy.

Dilbar, a victim, said that there was no other way to support the children except selling kidneys. After taking his sick child to the hospital, he added that the doctors said he would not treat him without money. Hence, he was bound to sell his kidney. Dilbar is still suffering from the uncertainty of how to lead later when the money runs out. But, according to doctors, 99 percent of the operated kidneys will resell.

In addition to encouraging these helpless people not to sell children and kidneys, various charitable committees are helping them with money and food. But that is not enough at all for them. Therefore, the sale of children and kidneys is not stopping, said Mohammad Sadeq, the head of a charity. He requested the world to help Afghans in dire humanitarian crises.
