On August 11, a four-member Wildlife Crime Control Unit team went to watch “Hawa” at the Bashundhara City branch of Star Cineplex in Dhaka. After watching the movie, the representatives had stated that the Wildlife Conservation and Security Act of 2012 was violated because of the scene featuring a captivated Starling. Hence, ‘Hawa’ Director Sued by Wildlife Crime Control Unit.
Following the incident, a case has been filed against Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, the Director of “Hawa” for disobeying the Wildlife Conservation and Security Act of 2012. The Wildlife Crime Control Unit inspector, Nargis Sultana, filed the case with the Metropolitan Session Judge Court. The basis for filing the issue is that “Hawa” features a scene where a Starling bird is shown inside a cage. At one point, the bird is killed and eaten. The Director of “Hawa”, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, has claimed that no animals were harmed while filming the movie. However, Mr. Sumon insisted that dummy versions of animals were used to advance the story.
