In the 8th annual Amnesty Media Award, Qatar-based news outlet Al Jazeera took up the top honor for “Best Human Rights Journalism.” Amnesty International Media Awards celebrate excellence in human rights journalism and applaud the courage and determination of journalists and editors who put their lives on the line to tell critical human rights stories. According to Al Jazeera, the agency’s Investigative Unit won the award in the category for the documentary “All the Prime Minister’s Men,” which was set in Bangladesh.

“Exposing human rights abuses is a core tenet of the I-Unit, and winning the year’s investigation from Amnesty International is a significant honor,” said Phil Reese, Al Jazeera’s Director of investigative journalism. 

The Al Jazeera Media Network owns Al Jazeera English, an international 24-hour English-language news channel. It is the first English-language news station with a Middle Eastern headquarters. News management is rotated between Doha and London broadcasting centers rather than being managed centrally.
