This year, the Japanese government will honor three Bangladeshis with the ‘Order of the Rising Sun’ award for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of Japan-Bangladesh ties. According to a statement from the embassy in Dhaka, the names of foreign people nominated for this year’s prize were published by the Japanese government on April 29, 2022. Abul Kalam Azad, Abdul Haque, and Md Ekhlasur Rahman are the Bangladeshi nominees. Abul Kalam Azad, the former Principal Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office and former Chief Coordinator for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the president of Bangladesh Scouts, will be honored with the “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Stars.”

The “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays” award will be given to Ekhlasur Rahman, Director of Yamagata-Dhaka Friendship Hospital. Abdul Haque, Managing Director of Haq’s Bay Automobiles and Former President of the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI), will receive the “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette” honor.
