Bangladesh is set to mark its National Mourning Day and the 47th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 2022, with due respect and earnestness. Bangladesh’s father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and most of his family members were brutally killed by disgruntled army men on August 15, 1975, and this bloodbath is described as the darkest chapter of the country’s history. His two daughters, Sheikh Hasina, currently Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and Sheikh Rehana, escaped the planned assassination because they were abroad. The government has developed elaborate programs to memorialize the day nationally. The article is about Bangladesh Observing National Mourning Day.

The national flag will be upheaved at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous, and educational places and private companies, including at the Bangladesh missions abroad. To observe the day, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will pay tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independent Bangladesh, by putting wreaths in front of his portrait at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The Armed Forces and prayers will give a guard of honor will be offered there.

Like every time, the Prime Minister will place wreaths at Banani Graveyard on the graves of the family members of Bangabandhu who were brutally killed on August 15, 1975 as well. Special prayers will also be held at different mosques, temples, churches, pagodas, and worship places across the country. Special supplements are going to be published in national dailies and periodicals highlighting the day’s importance. The Department of Films and Publications (DFP) has published national distribution posters. However,English posters have already been dispatched to Bangladesh diplomatic missions abroad.

The Mass Communication Department will screen documentary films on the life and works of Bangabandhu across the country. In addition, the Press Information Department (PID) will organize a weeklong photo exhibition at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Regional information offices under the PID will also arrange photo exhibitions at the divisional level.
