Pahela Baishakh In A New Twist

It is a Bengali holiday unlike any other, with Bengalis and Bangladeshis from all walks of life drawn to the celebrations because of its traditional appeal. Simple rituals such as eating traditional and culturally relevant cuisine, dressing in bright colors or spotless whites, and wearing flower jewelry help people connect with the Bengali half of their now globalized souls.

While the virus took away our celebrations for two years, Ramadan has given the occasion a new twist this year. So, what are your options? First, change the festive spread to iftar and continue to rejoice with your loved ones.

For sehri, make the traditional Bengali “machh er jhol” and “kacha aam er shorbot” for iftar. If you like, you can eat a “moa,” “murki,” or panta. Dress to impress in the bright and vibrant colors of Baishakh, and allow the joy to touch your soul.
